Services provided to job seekers include the following:
- Intake: Assistance with applying for job center services and identifying the job seeker's specific needs. The intake service includes referral to appropriate services in the Job Centers and the community.
- Assessment: Testing to determine basic skill levels, interest, experience, and aptitude for career planning purposes. Assessment also includes "barrier screening" to identify a job seeker's barriers to employment, such as alcohol and other drug abuse problems, domestic violence issues, mental health concerns, and other barriers.
- Case Management: A Financial Employment Planner or program case manager is assigned to each job seeker participating in a program. The FEP or case manager is responsible for assessment, case planning, referral to services, support services, monitoring, and other family supports as needed.
- Employment Services: these services include job readiness workshops, job club, resume preparation, "soft skills" training, and job placement including individualized assistance from a UMOS Employment Consultant.
- Work Experience: Job seekers participate in work experience assignments which build their skills, foster good work habits, and assist them in gaining experience they need to move into permanent, full-time employment. Work experience sites throughout the community offer a variety of work opportunities. By participating in work experience, job seekers can establish new skills and develop work references.
- Retention and Career Advancement: Assistance is provided to ensure job seekers are able to maintain employment. Retention services include a variety of supportive services, follow-up assistance, re-placement into another job, coaching, and assistance with career advancement and promotional opportunities with the current employer.
- Education: Education opportunities in the job centers include classes in adult basic education and literacy, English as a Second Language, GED and HSED, plus referrals to higher education; including the Wisconsin Technical College System and the University of Wisconsin System.
- Training: A wide variety of short-term training opportunities are available, including customized training with local employers. Customized training programs often lead to permanent, full-time positions with the employer sponsoring the training, provided the program is successfully completed.
