WHAT IS THE WISCONSIN HOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

The Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program (WHEAP) provides assistance for heating costs, electric costs, and energy crisis situations. Operating with federal and state funding, the program provides assistance to approximately 150,000 Wisconsin households annually.

WHEAP assistance is a one-time payment during the heating season (October 1 - May 15). The funding pays a portion of the heating costs but the payment is not intended to cover the entire cost of heating a residence. The amount of the heating assistance benefit varies depending on a variety of factors, including the household's size, income, and heating costs. In most cases the heating assistance benefit is paid directly to the household energy supplier.

To make an appointment call UMOS: 262-657-2160 or 262-657-2170 (on or after Oct 1st)

WEATHERIZATION HOW DOES IT WORK?

Weatherization services help homeowners and renters reduce energy consumption while increasing comfort in their homes by helping keep them cooler in summer and warmer in the winter.

All clients seeking weatherization must apply for energy assistance. If eligible for energy assistance, clients are placed on a state weatherization list and contacted as funds become available.

HOW DO I LEARN MORE ABOUT WEATHERIZATION SERVICES AND WHERE TO APPLY?

For more information on Weatherization call toll free: 1-866-HEATWIS (432-8947), or visit www.homeenergyplus.wi.gov, or contact UMOS in the Kenosha area at the information listed above or contact your local WHEAP agency.
