were provided to migrant and Hispanic youth, ages 15 to 22 years, exceeding
projected goals. Over 4,000 persons were provided with information on the
effects of secondhand smoke at Hispanic cultural events, along with the
agencies that subcontract with UMOS. We were able to provide over 4,490
Hispanic community members who sign "Take It Outside" Clean Air Campaign
pledges to not smoke in their homes, thereby keeping children free from
secondhand smoke.
UMOS in partnership with outreach professionals from Pemiscott Memorial,
Campbell Missouri, conducts health screening services.
Funded under the Wisconsin Tobacco Control Board, through the Wisconsin Hispanic
Tobacco Prevention Network, UMOS involved the community in the development of
strategic plans to deal with the health disparities that affect communities.
The plan dealt with issues of how some interventions, to negate the effects of
smoking on Hispanic families, are different then the general population. UMOS
staff also advocated for a smoke-free environment and provided prevention
education outreach to the Hispanic Community.

members and their families.
We provided Nicotine replacement aides to 50 participants that walked into our
agency. We provided follow up to 25 participants.
