School Age Program (6-12)
UMOS operates a school age program under the Migrant Day Care Program (MDC) which provides services to children ages six to 12 years, thereby supplementing services provided by the Department of Instruction (DPI) and extending the much needed length of childcare services to families with older children. UMOS serves these children through four MDC centers for a period of five to seven weeks. This year the UMOS School Age Program served 141 children under the 6 to 12 Program operated at Beaver Dam, Palmyra, Plymouth, Wautoma/Redgranite, and Stevens Point centers serving Dodge, Green Lake, Jefferson, Waukesha, Sheboygan, Ozaukee, Manitowoc, Fond Du Lac, Marquette, Columbia, Adams, Sauk, Portage, Wood, and Waushara Counties.

The School Age Program is geared toward providing a safe and nurturing environment coupled with educational activities, and reinforced with learning objectives. The UMOS School Age Program uses the portfolio-based thematic curriculum with weekly theme units that promote academic enrichment activities, including critical thinking and problem solving skills. The curriculum provided opportunities for positive learning through the following themes: the arts, zoology, media, citizenship, endangered species, and nutrition. The thematic units were supported with field trips, presenters and "hands on" activities that promoted learning in various facets. To augment learning, UMOS Child Development applied for and was awarded a RIF (Reading is Fundamental) grant. The RIF grant incorporated all the elements of project LEER, thus ensuring resources for both children and parents.
