Child Development Programs

UMOS Child Development Programs are comprised of Migrant and Seasonal Head Start and Migrant Daycare. Through these two programs, UMOS has been instrumental in providing services to families in a Multi- State setting. Services provided included Early Childhood, Family Services, Health Services, Special Services, Nutrition, and Family Literacy.

The programs are aimed at providing quality educational services, which are both child-focused and family-centered. UMOS' holistic approach to services has been central in effectively addressing the needs of families and children and has brought a cadre of partnering agencies in serving the whole family while engaging the family from various facets to address their particular needs. UMOS Child Development Programs represent many ideas, thoughts, values, and traditions bound by a commitment to serve families and children while striving to provide comprehensive and highquality services.

  Photo of Child Painting MIGRANT SERVICES AND HEAD START PROGRAM (MSHS): An Integrated Approach

UMOS provides a variety of comprehensive services under the Migrant and Seasonal Head Start Program. These services include, health, dental, early childhood, family services, transportation, nutrition, mental wellness, disabilities and transportation. UMOS served a total of 535 MSHS children in 2006.

UMOS is currently funded as a direct grantee program and a delegate agency of the Texas Migrant Council, Inc. (TMC). Both programs offer and provide Migrant and Seasonal Head Start services to migrant children and their families.

MIGRANT DAY CARE PROGRAM: A State-Wide System

UMOS has been funded for migrant childcare services through state funding since 1986. The Migrant Day Care program was created in the late 1980s to address the many childcare needs that directly impact the migrant and seasonal farmworker worker in the State of Wisconsin. The Migrant Day Care Program has developed a statewide system of licensed childcare centers and certified in-home providers, which deliver childcare services to targeted populations.

School Age Program (6-12)

UMOS operates a school age program under the Migrant Day Care Program (MDC) which provides services to children ages six to 12 years, thereby supplementing services provided by the Department of Instruction (DPI) and extending the much needed length of childcare services to families with older children.

Provider Management Services

UMOS childcare management services consist of providers, clients and fiscal services. The provider service management includes identification, recruitment, selection and monitoring of providers.
